My finished zentangle art

Over the past week or two I have been working on this piece of zentangle art, only using sharpie and paint. You had to chose a symbol that represented you, and I chose the flower because I enjoy being outside. I'm proud of myself because I didn't end up having to cover it with any paper, apart from one tiny square, and I also am proud because I blended and mixed the paints with my background.

Disco

Last week on Thursday I went to the Ngatea school disco!!It was just a fun night out to hang with friends. We played the jandle game which is a game were someone runs around the circle holding a shoe and has the other hand out. They have to try grab onto somebody else thats in the circle and once the train gets bigger, when the leader chose throw the shoe away everyone has to run back into the circle but the last one left has to start the game back up. After that we had to slow dance! I slow danced couple of times then went to get some lollies and chocolates outside at the tuck shop. Just towards the end we had a dance off, but I didn't get a prize.... Here's some pictures from the night!

Waka Ama

Last week I went to Waka Ama with the rest of the Marama Students. We got to have a go in a Waka, go mountain biking, learn a song and do army marching. I enjoyed doing the Waka the best because I haven't really been in a Waka before - (Apart from last year at Waka Ama) The event was heald at Huntley college but we mountain biked at did Waka Ama at the lake. I also enjoyed doing mountain biking because there was heaps of puddles and it was quite a long ride. In the Waka we had to cheer along to the Haka and we mixed it around to make it our own. I recommend this day because you learn a lot about the Maori culture that you might not have already known.

End of the alphabet

Since the start of this term my Reading club group have been reading a book called the end of the alphabet. It's a bout a fourteen year old girl called Ruby Yarrow, that a has really annoying/naughty brother called Max, Two little brothers and her Mum plus Step Dad. Her Mum used to spoil Max when he was younger and now he has turned into a nasty kid. Ruby's Mum always relies on her to cook the dinners, clean the house, look after the little ones plus a whole lot of other jobs. Ruby can't read or write, so Max always gets to have his own room so he can 'Consecrate' on his homework while Ruby is the one that is with the little kids, and she actually needs a desk so she can learn! In the end Max is so sick of living with the rest of the Yarrow's so his Father send him a ticket to go at live with him in Australia, mean while Ruby has a job trying to save up to go to Brazil, and Max soon decides that we wants to come home but her parents can't pay for the ticket home. Ruby ends up paying for her horrible brother to come back to New Zealand but she stands her ground and keeps her own room which causes  more trouble in the house. So Calvin - (The step Dad) Has a great idea to build a sleep out with Max so he can have his own room and so can Ruby until he goes to counseling and his counselor says he shouldn't get the sleep out, he should be inside with the rest of the family. He continued to build the sleep out but it actually became Ruby's. In the end everything was good and Ruby had book her tickets to go to Brazil! Also at the beginig Ruby was like a door mat but her best friend Tia told her to stop letting her family walk all over her and stop being so shy. Now she is going to Brazil, she has sorted out Max and her Mum doesn't spoil him anymore, and she might have won a boyfriend over....
Read the book to find out more!!

Floor Planner task week 5

Over the past two weeks the Marama syndicate have been designing their own class room/learning spaces on a website called Floor planner. As part of the task we had to make a creative poster, this is mine:
And this is a snapshot of the dream classroom I designed:
It has different learning spaces, like a reading and independent room, A teacher conference/group room, A big art room and a partner room. I enjoyed making this because I got to use really different furniture, like glass desks, a chair called and egg chair and heaps more! The space up the top is the art area so that space would have lino in case of spilled paint or anything else like that.
I think that making this floor planner was really fun an I hope that on day my classroom really does look like that!

NYLD - National Young Leaders Day

Last week on Thursday I went on a school trip to Auckland were we learnt what quality's a good leader needs. There were five speakers and my favorite speakers were, Cam Calkoen, Dave Atkinson and Erin Simpson!! The theme of the day was called heros. I enjoyed this day because I heard a really great inspiring story from Cam Calkoen. He has a disability but he said that he didn't let that stop him from doing anything, Cam has been and represented New Zealand in athletics, he also was scared about speaking live in front of people but now he speaks all over the world sharing his amazing story to people all ages. He says his favorite word is 'Awesome!' Cam said that being awesome is awesome. I also liked a guy called Dave because he was really funny and he talked about his life when he was younger. And my third favorite speaker was Erin Simpson, off the Erin Simpson show! She told us that if she wasn't a T.V presenter she would be a tattoo artist or an artist! Erin made me think about how much fun it would be to have your own show and now I sorta want to have my own show. I enjoyed National Young Leaders Day because it was fun, funny, inspiring, and I learnt a lot from it!
