My Report On Athletics Day

My report on Athletics Day:
Yesterday - (Monday the 12th of November 2013) We had Ngatea Primary Schools Athletics! There were six events that you had to participate in, Shot-Put, High Jump, Long Jump, 80m Sprints, 200m Sprints and 800m Sprints. All students and Ngatea Primary School are divided into one of the four houses. Each house has a color, and each student has to wear their house color on sports days: eg - Cross Country, Athletics, Swimming Sports etc. Each student that wins an event, gets given house points to put towards their house, then at the end of the day they add the points up and reveal the winning house! This years winning house went to Weka, they won most relays and also did really well in all other field events. Runners up went to Patiki, then came the other two houses. This event was not optional, which meant all students had to participate and run like chaters when it came their races. Many students that got into the top three or four, get the chance to go through to Hauraki Plains! All schools from around the Hauraki send their top runners/Athletes through to Hauraki Plains, where there's more competition. For the mean time though, Many Ngatea kids are still getting over their successes from Ngatea’s Athletics.

Athletics

On Monday Ngatea Primary School had their Athletics day! I got through to the finals for most of my sprints, but didn't make it any further that the finals. For my High Jump I got in at least the top ten, but didn't get through to Hauraki Plains. I participated in the 12+ Girls relay, and our team came third. Overall, I enjoyed the day and can't wait till next time!

We All Fall Down

For the start of this term my reading club group is reading a book called We All Fall Down, By Eric Walters! It's a story about the terrorist attack on the two twin towers. It starts off with a boy called William that has to go to work with his father, because it is 'Take your Kid to work day' His Father shows him around the South Tower, because that is the tower he works in, and tells Will all the facts about the tower. The first plane flew into the North Tower first and then the second on flew into the South Tower. The part I'm up to now is just after the first Plane has hit the North Tower.

New Furniture

This week our syndicate got new furniture to suit the way we learn! We have a table with a white board on top - (Stuck to the top!) We have three awesome little chairs, a bar/high bench thing with four stools, and two different collaborative tables! Now that we have the new furniture, we can bond more with our groups, and are able to complete work faster and easier!

Group Day

On Wednesday I participated in the Hauraki Group Day! I took my lamb Vanilla, and got a fourth for rearing, and another fourth for participating in the lading parade. For my calling I got a fifth - Which I missed out on a ribbon. And another fifth for my actual leading ring. I enjoyed the day even though there was tougher competition, and I'm proud of my lamb for getting me two ribbons!

Calf Club

Yesterday I competed in the Ngatea Primary Schools calf club! I took my lamb Vanilla and got 2nd in leading, then took out reserve champion for leading. And I also got a merit for my obstacle course! Since this is my last year I have decided to go through and compete in the HP Group Day, and I might possibly do the HP Show..... But that depends on how well I go at Group Day.

Year Eight Testing

Today all the year eights had to sit three tests in a row! Our first test was a maths test that we had to complete in 45 minutes, Our second test was a reading test that we had 25 minutes for, and our third test was a vocabulary test that we had another 25 minutes to complete it. We had to complete these tests because all of us are going to collage next year, and the tests are just to give the teachers some ideas for what classes we might need to be in. Now all of us just have to wait and see what classes we are going to be in!

Goals for this term

This term I would like to achieve my 'Be Published' Milestone. If I want to achieve this milestone, I will have to enter myself into the Upstart magazine over and over again until some sort of my learning gets published.
My second goal for the term is to try get 90-ish out of 100 in my basic facts test. To achieve this goal I will have to work hard on my times and divides.
My third goal for this term is to go through to Hauriki Plains Athletics. To achieve this I will have to do lots of running and practice jumping over high things - For high jump.

Volley Ball

Over the past term Marama have been walking down to the collage to learn volley ball skills from older year elevens. We had to learn the spike, serve, dig and set. After a couple of weeks practicing different ways to hit the ball, we all had to participate in a torment! We had to VS all the other seven teams then whoever came out with the most points won the competition! The team I was in came first equal with another team, and after the competition had finished, each person in our team got a certificate and two Fredos for participating! I enjoyed learning the volley ball skills and am proud of my team for coming first equal!

Lino Cut/Print Evaluation

Over the past four weeks Marama have been cutting out lino prints and then stamping them with ink. You had to do a practice then you got to pick your size of lino. Next you had to sketch a self portrait then start cutting out with a lino cutter. I enjoyed this piece of art because cutting the lino was fun, and also printing and experimenting with different colors was fun. Next time I would like to cut out a background onto my lino to show more detail. Here's a picture of my lino cut and lino print:

Milestones

Today I achieved my blogging milestone, I had to check that my blog had two posts a week, that it had pictures/movies on it, and that it had to have weekly reflections on it! I also had to have some sort of feedback from family/Friends, so I got my Mum to take a look at my blog at tell me what she thought of it. Secondly I got my Digital Design Milestone because I made a 40 second ad about 'Spray on shoes' To get that Milestone I had to have made/create something digital and edit it using a computer! Also a couple of weeks ago I completed my Oral Presentation Milestone, because I shared my speech with my writing group, and that counts as a mini audience. Last term I achieved my perfuming arts Milestone by performing J-Rock! In total I have four Milestones and have five left to complete! My goals for next term are to achieve my 'Be Published' Milestone and my 'Careers Pathway' Milestone. The way I ma going to complete these two Milestones are by entering work/art into the Upstart Magazine, and to complete my Careers Pathway Milestone I am going to try get some sort of work experience down in the junior of school - (Because I want to be a teacher) I'm hoping to achieve my other Milestones too in my spare time in school.

MADE Awards

For the whole of this term - (Term 3) Everyone in Marama have been working on either a Commercial, music Video, Drama, Static image or Manipulated image. The MADE Awards is a comp against other schools and collages. I chose to do a Commercial with Maddy, Lucy and Yvonne. Our Commercial topic was 'Spray on shoes!' We shot our Commercial in the school playground, and edited/Added voice overs in the blue room. This took us five weeks to plan the story board, Plan/Learn our lines, Shoot the seances and edit it! Our short 40 second Commercial about why you should buy our non-existing product, made it into the Made Awards! Now we just have to wait and see if we get a place.

Blokes' day

Today was Ngatea Primary schools Fathers day! In the first session I was with Kennidy and her Popa, We had to make a stretcher out of news paper! Our strategy was to try and roll up news paper, stick them all together, then and handles - Also made of news paper. We did just that but it looked as though it was going to break any minute, Our creation proved us wrong! We ran the obstacle course with a weight on our stretcher finishing on 19 seconds! Then afterwards when we got to break them all up, I sat on our on and it could hold me - For a little while...  After that challenge we had lunch and my Granddad and Dad arrived. After lunch we did another challenge, We had to make a base, then add height, then add a marble hanging off string at the end. Ours was really tall, but it wasn't strong enough, it just kept falling over, so when the judges came to look..... We got disqualified! But it was fun!

Polyostering Ink Printing

For two weeks now we have been using Polyostering to print fishes with. This is to practice for our real lino print. For the lino print we are going to be printing a portrait of ourselves, but for now we have just been painting a piece of paper as our background, and using black ink to print our fish. You only have to have on retested but I have two, here they are:

Mi Planning

Each week all of the Marama syndicate has to create on of these docs and timetable in the slots, what they are going to do. In my Mi Plan, each week I link everything onto it, so I don't need to surf through drive. By Link I mean: Say if I was going to do writing, I would link my writing onto My Mi Plan, so that when it came to the time to do my writing, all I need to do it click on the link and it will take me to my writing doc. The reason the teachers have got us to use this online planning tool, is to teach us to manage our own learning. If I have a Maths meeting, the teachers don't call out 'Maths Group 5' They just expect us to be there on time, and if we aren't we get our gold card taken off us and have to go onto our maths doc and catch up. I enjoy using docs to plan my week because I get to pick when I do things and If I am a little behind, I can slot it in at any other free time.  Also I have color coded my Mi Plan, Pink is the time of day, Blue is my own planning, Yellow is everything that I HAVE to attend and Thursday is just plain green because it is a day for IMPACT. My Impact project is to get kids eating healthy breakfasts.
Here's a picture of my Mi Plan:

Cross Country

Last Monday I did Ngatea School cross country! I came 11th and missed out on going to Haruki plains by one place. I enjoyed going up the mud slide hill, and I also liked going through the creak, but I didn't like having to run up the killer hill. My race was the last race so after we got to go straight back to school instead of having to wait and watch everyone else races. I enjoyed it the most because I got muddy and super wet!

Term 3 Goals

This term I want to achieve My blogging milestone, My oral presentation milestone and my be published milestone.
I'm going to update my blog weekly then book in for a conference with Mrs Hull and ask for my blogging milestone. This term I'm also doing a speech on why living in the country is better than living in the city, so I will get my oral presentation if I perform that in front of Marama. Also I have entered a lot of art/writing into the upstart magazine so I'm hoping to get published in the magazine, then achieve my be published milestone.

This term I would like to be brave enough to perform my speech in front of Marama, not just in front of my writing group, but first I have to get some good marks on it.
I would also like get ninety-five out of one hundred marks on my next basic facts test this term.
My last goal this term is to get in the top twelve for cross country.

Grandparents day

On the last day of the last term it was Grandparents day!! My Grandparents came and I showed them how I learnt on the computer and also showed them some of my art. I really enjoyed the day because I got to share all my learning with them and show them how different how syndicate is compared to many other schools senor end. We also had a spacial assembly earlier and some of the year seven and eights got an academic award. I was one of them!! I really enjoyed the whole afternoon!

J-Rock

This year I participated in J-Rock at the Cladlands event center in Hamilton! There was over 2000 people in the audience and 13 other schools performing! The name of our performance was called time changes, and it was about how technology has changed our lives so much over the past years. I was in the T.V scene where we had to act like little girls that were at a sleep over getting ready to watch their favorite T.V show! I really enjoyed performing it, even though it was nerve raking on the side, And I think that if I get the chance again I would do it!

My term two Highlights

Since it's the end of this term, all of the Marama Students had to do their highlights, weather it was on a doc, or presentation or any other digital design. I chose to use an online photo editor called Pizap. I made a collage of the things that I most enjoyed this term!, which were: The Disco, J-Rock, Technology/Cooking, Waka Ama and NYLD!

My finished zentangle art

Over the past week or two I have been working on this piece of zentangle art, only using sharpie and paint. You had to chose a symbol that represented you, and I chose the flower because I enjoy being outside. I'm proud of myself because I didn't end up having to cover it with any paper, apart from one tiny square, and I also am proud because I blended and mixed the paints with my background.
Here's a picture:

Disco

Last week on Thursday I went to the Ngatea school disco!!It was just a fun night out to hang with friends. We played the jandle game which is a game were someone runs around the circle holding a shoe and has the other hand out. They have to try grab onto somebody else thats in the circle and once the train gets bigger, when the leader chose throw the shoe away everyone has to run back into the circle but the last one left has to start the game back up. After that we had to slow dance! I slow danced couple of times then went to get some lollies and chocolates outside at the tuck shop. Just towards the end we had a dance off, but I didn't get a prize.... Here's some pictures from the night!

Waka Ama

Last week I went to Waka Ama with the rest of the Marama Students. We got to have a go in a Waka, go mountain biking, learn a song and do army marching. I enjoyed doing the Waka the best because I haven't really been in a Waka before - (Apart from last year at Waka Ama) The event was heald at Huntley college but we mountain biked at did Waka Ama at the lake. I also enjoyed doing mountain biking because there was heaps of puddles and it was quite a long ride. In the Waka we had to cheer along to the Haka and we mixed it around to make it our own. I recommend this day because you learn a lot about the Maori culture that you might not have already known.

End of the alphabet

Since the start of this term my Reading club group have been reading a book called the end of the alphabet. It's a bout a fourteen year old girl called Ruby Yarrow, that a has really annoying/naughty brother called Max, Two little brothers and her Mum plus Step Dad. Her Mum used to spoil Max when he was younger and now he has turned into a nasty kid. Ruby's Mum always relies on her to cook the dinners, clean the house, look after the little ones plus a whole lot of other jobs. Ruby can't read or write, so Max always gets to have his own room so he can 'Consecrate' on his homework while Ruby is the one that is with the little kids, and she actually needs a desk so she can learn! In the end Max is so sick of living with the rest of the Yarrow's so his Father send him a ticket to go at live with him in Australia, mean while Ruby has a job trying to save up to go to Brazil, and Max soon decides that we wants to come home but her parents can't pay for the ticket home. Ruby ends up paying for her horrible brother to come back to New Zealand but she stands her ground and keeps her own room which causes  more trouble in the house. So Calvin - (The step Dad) Has a great idea to build a sleep out with Max so he can have his own room and so can Ruby until he goes to counseling and his counselor says he shouldn't get the sleep out, he should be inside with the rest of the family. He continued to build the sleep out but it actually became Ruby's. In the end everything was good and Ruby had book her tickets to go to Brazil! Also at the beginig Ruby was like a door mat but her best friend Tia told her to stop letting her family walk all over her and stop being so shy. Now she is going to Brazil, she has sorted out Max and her Mum doesn't spoil him anymore, and she might have won a boyfriend over....
Read the book to find out more!!

Floor Planner task week 5

Over the past two weeks the Marama syndicate have been designing their own class room/learning spaces on a website called Floor planner. As part of the task we had to make a creative poster, this is mine:
And this is a snapshot of the dream classroom I designed:
It has different learning spaces, like a reading and independent room, A teacher conference/group room, A big art room and a partner room. I enjoyed making this because I got to use really different furniture, like glass desks, a chair called and egg chair and heaps more! The space up the top is the art area so that space would have lino in case of spilled paint or anything else like that.
I think that making this floor planner was really fun an I hope that on day my classroom really does look like that!

NYLD - National Young Leaders Day

Last week on Thursday I went on a school trip to Auckland were we learnt what quality's a good leader needs. There were five speakers and my favorite speakers were, Cam Calkoen, Dave Atkinson and Erin Simpson!! The theme of the day was called heros. I enjoyed this day because I heard a really great inspiring story from Cam Calkoen. He has a disability but he said that he didn't let that stop him from doing anything, Cam has been and represented New Zealand in athletics, he also was scared about speaking live in front of people but now he speaks all over the world sharing his amazing story to people all ages. He says his favorite word is 'Awesome!' Cam said that being awesome is awesome. I also liked a guy called Dave because he was really funny and he talked about his life when he was younger. And my third favorite speaker was Erin Simpson, off the Erin Simpson show! She told us that if she wasn't a T.V presenter she would be a tattoo artist or an artist! Erin made me think about how much fun it would be to have your own show and now I sorta want to have my own show. I enjoyed National Young Leaders Day because it was fun, funny, inspiring, and I learnt a lot from it!

Proud of my Maths

Over the past two weeks my Maths group have been learning about how to work out questions using a formula. At first I didn't know how to use a formula or how to create one so I went home and asked my Dad because he is really good with maths. Now I know how to use formulas and I think that they are a really fun way to work out maths equations. In the first worksheet we done I got all my questions right apart from one, and on the second worksheet - (Witch was a little harder) I got just over halve of them right! So far this is my favorite maths task I've done this year.

Zentangle art

Since the start of the term we have been doing Zentangle art with only sharpies. Zentangle art is a relaxing hobby where you can just sit down and draw patterns all over a piece of paper. It's different to drawing because you have to make it really really detailed. Lots of lines and lots of different patterns. We first had to practice on a little piece of paper then we went onto doing it on a big piece of colored paper.
These are my two Zentangles so far.
My practice

My second practice
I'm onto a third Zentangle art and it's my name in block letters. I'm zentangling the inside of my block letters.

The first Holidays 2013

Over the holidays I invited Lucy to come to the movies with the rest of my family, and one of my brothers friends. We went to the Pukekohe Cinema three theater to watch The Croods in 3D! The Croods is about a young caveman teenager who hates living in a cave with the rest of her mad family. Shes always running away and hiding, and one night she sneaks out of the cave and follows the light from a fire. When she reaches the fire she realizes that there's a human camping out there and then the human called Guy tells her that the world that they are living in is going to end. Her over protective Dad doesn't believe her until a huge earth quake happens and their cave is crushed. The teenager is called Eep, and Eep and Guy end up liking each other. Eep's Dad decided that the family needed to move away from the area so they start to walk to a high mountain, and Eep convinces her Mum and Dad to let Guy come along, so that he can use his human skills to keep them safe along to journey. Thats when the adventure starts and eventually the caveman family finds a place really awesome to live!! The best part about watching this movie was that I got to watch it in 3D with a really cool friend! We got to have a drink, M&M's, Skittles and popcorn while we watched the movie! After the movie we went to Rebel Sport, and the Warehouse, and at the Warehouse I got Geelez, they are these stickers that you paint the you can stick them anywhere, and the best thing is you can re-stick them again.! At the moment my favorite movie is The Croods!

Term 1 highlights and evaluation

In this last week all Marama students have had to evaluate their term as well as explain their highlight. This term we didn't have to do it on a document, we were a loud to do some sort of prestitaion and I chose to do it on my computer movie maker. Heres the finished product, hope you like it.

Our food impact blog

Over the past term I have been part of a food group called the kick starters. Our target for the year is to get kids of all ages to eat lunch/breakfast. We have been searching on the internet and looking at what we could do to get kids to eat healthy meals. We have diced make a lunch order or a breakfast at school, so that people can come to school and eat if they haven't had the time to eat at home. We have sent out an online servery to the rest of the Marama syntactic to see what their thought were, and if it was a good idea. Our results have come in that most people eat breakfast, weather their lying or not we have to believe the servery. We will most probably make a healthy lunch order so that people on a Friday that have empty pantry's can order their lunch at school. Our main porpoise is to get kids at Ngatea School to eat healthy!
Heres some pictures of our food technology blog, click on this link to cheek out our food blog, remember to take a look regularly to see our next steeps/plans.

My Reading Creator

This is my plane that me and my Dad made from the book Hatchet. I had to make something creative from the book Hatchet as my reading role creator. First I cut out the shape of the plane and the wings, then when I got to school the next day I painted it blue. The reason why I choose blue is because on the front cover of the book when the plane is being struck by lightning, it looks blue. I'm proud of this because I thought it would turn out different, but in the end it turned out better.
This is my plane from Hatchet:

Netball

For netball this year I was selected to be in the Ngatea A Squad! The A squad are the top netballers from Ngatea Primary School 2013, and I'm one of them! All of the A squad had to re-trial for the top two teams, but I didn't quite make it into Ngatea one (The top team) I don't really mind being in the second best, because I know that Ngatea one will be really hard, and plus the team I'm in is a really good team. I'm looking forward to our first training on the 4th of April, and my coach is a teacher from school so thats going to be a little different. I'm proud of myself for making it into Ngatea two because thats the highest team I've ever got into at Ngatea School!! I can't wait till netball starts this year..... It's going to be the best!!

Reading online sketch

For reading this term I've been reading Hatchet. Hatchet is about a boy called Brian who was flying in a privite plane to go stay with his father for the summer. His plane ends up crashing because the pilot has a heart attack, and he has to try stay alive on his own with only a hatchet.  This is a sketch I did online of Brian. (This is how I imagined him)

Taupo Camp 2013

Last Tuesday I went on camp to Taupo until Friday. Every activity that we done was an outdoor activity. On Tuesday when we arrived there we set our cabins up then went on a really long bush walk to Huka Falls!! Since it was a really hot day and we were all tired from the big walk, on the way back to the camp site we got to have a swim at AC Baths!! Huka Falls was so loud, and the water was rushing straight past us faster than a click of your fingers. Also AC Baths had a bombing zone and two hydro slides! I loved the hydro slides, most the time that I was there I played on the hydro slides. And it's like the only place you can actually bomb!!

Huka Falls

AC Baths

On Wednesday we went to a place called Action World, were you climb and jump onto and off a lot of different things. If you fall it's Ok because you would just fall onto big stunt bags. I liked a castle were you had to hop into a sack and then fly down this big slide!!

Action World. (This is my favorite castle/Activity to do.)

On Thursday we were split into four groups and then went and done four different activities. The first thing I done was rock climbing at AC Baths. I climbed and easy rock wall, then another easy one a couple of times, and then one that was quite hard. The harder one was step shaped and nobody had made it over the first big step. I was the first person to get to the top of that rock wall and also one of the highest people on one of the easier ones. My second rotation was Orienteering, We had to find heaps of posts stuck in the ground without a compass, just a map. My group found everything that we needed to find with the help from my Dad. Then we went Rafting through little rapids and we played games with our rafts. Also we were aloud to jump out of the raft and have a swim at Taupo hot springs. That's were the thermal from under the ground heats up the lake water making it as warm as a spa. And our last activity was mountain biking. I was in the front of the pack all the way. The track was really bumpy so it made it a little harder and there was quite a lot of hills. Quite a lot of people fell off their bikes and I was one of them! I just have a bruise on my knee hat's all!!

Rafting

Taupo Hot Springs

Thursday was our last day so in the morning we had to tidy our rooms and pack all our stuff into our cars. Then on the way home we stopped for a fish at Prawn Park. Prawn Park is where there are 19 pools full of prawns and people are aloud to fish for them, You can take them home. We got a private tour of the park, and got to feed baby prawns and also look at the parks biggest prawn, His name is Shawn.
After we were aloud to fish for prawns except I didn't catch any. I had a few bites but didn't catch one.

Taupo camp was the best camp I've been on. Everything was so much more fun this year. We even got to do a skit, The winning skit was a group of boy. My Dad was even selected to come on camp!! I'll never forget camp 2013.

My group pop art task

Every Friday afternoon we have been sketching a leader that we look up to, after that the teacher would pick the best sketch and blow it up. We then have to cut it into pieces and take a piece each. You color it different colors then join it back up and it looks all colorful. The person my group did was Sir Edmond Hillary.

Habits Of Mind poster

Over the past week all the year eight students have been creating a poster on one of the many habits of mind. This is my habit's of mind poster on 'Finding Humor' (You may need to click on it to read the writing.)

This is me

This is a task that the whole Marama team has been focusing on for almost two weeks. This is my published copy:

What I want to achieve this year

This year I my goal is to do everything. (Every school event or trip.) I want to participate in everything.
To achieve this I will need to be committed, because if I say I'm doing something but then don't do it, I'm never going to be able to achieve my goals for 2013. :)

Highlight of summer 2013

My highlights of summer were going to Waihi Beach and going to Rotorua for my brothers touch tournament. At Waihi Beach we swam, played on bikes/scooters and mostly ate chips out in the sun! We went to the RSA to have dinner and went to the dairy to get Dad a paper every morning. (And got lollies) My favorite part was going for a walk to a bay that had really big unsafe waves! Also my Grandad took us down to Rotorua for Nathan's touch, but to fill in time we went to Rainbow Springs and I got to go on the big splash ride! (You may have seen the add on T.V!) Also we got to eat a lot of unhealthy food so that was yummy! My brother won one game out of five really good teams! And that's the end of my highlights!!
The big splash ride
